Update: The Counter Clifton is open

The burgers just keep on coming. We have word on another (the third) burger chain headed our way this year after Florida-based BurgerFi in Secaucus and California-based Habit Burger, which is expected to open this April in Fair Lawn. And don’t forget Clifton is also the home of NYC BBQ joint Might Quinn’s Jersey expansion.

California concept The Counter, which has an outlet in Times Square, is bringing it’s “custom-built burgers” to NJ. This may or may not be the first NJ location for The Counter, as their website reveals a New Brunswick location is also in the works.

The Counter has diners fill out a sheet (check out the one for their Times Square location) which offers an array of proteins (beef, bison, chicken, vegan veggie, turkey), cheeses, sauces and toppings. There’s enough choices for 312,120+ different burger combinations. Burgers are available in 1/3, 2/3 and full pound weights, in a bowl (ie no bun) and made with humanely raised, hormone and antibiotic free Angus beef. There’s also chef-composed choices, sandwiches, salads, sides and milkshakes.

According to owner Nick Manis, the 4,000 sq feet (160 seat) restaurant will also feature a full bar. There is currently no official opening date.
