The Empanada Shop, the “gourmet” empanada shop, will be opening a second location in Rutherford.

Founded by Joni Caldera and Nelson Contreras in January, they began cooking empanadas together and sharing them with family & friends before they opened their first spot.

The menu (View Menu) includes “gourmet empanadas” made from homemade recipes passed down from their Dominican and Italian backgrounds. Flavors will include classic Latin beef, chicken, and pork with Italian flavors like sausage, peppers and onions, tomato, basil, and chicken, and garlic shrimp. Additionally, they’ve put an American twist on the Latin treat with fillings buffalo chicken, broccoli and cheddar, spinach and feta, and chili mac n cheese. For dessert they offer a guava & cheese or apple pie empanada.

The deal was done by Cushman & Wakefield brokers David Townes (Profile) and Alana Friedman (Profile).

No word yet on an opening date.
