The Best New Bergen County Dishes of 2017

Like everyone else, we have our standby spots for a local dinner, burger at lunch and even a chicken parm hero. That doesn’t mean some new places can’t get some mind share when it comes to food that we’re thinking about. We counted over 100 new openings this year, so here are a few dishes from NEW places that we really enjoyed and may (or may not) have gone back for a few times… and don’t hate if you disagree — let us know what new dishes you liked this year in the comments.

Anything at Cava / Paramus – Not sure how to describe how much we’ve liked the few times we’ve visited this chain of fast casual Mediterranean. The meatballs, hummus and various toppings when you create a bowl have all been very tasty. And never forget those pita chips with your order. Website

Heritage Pork at Seak / Edgewater – This Banh Mi incorporates ‘5’ spiced pork belly, lemongrass pork shoulder, japanese sriracha aioli served on a fresh baked artisan baguette, pickled daikon and carrot, cucumber, cilantro, kerrygold butter, jalapeno. Website

A Nice Stroll at Choices A to Z / Old Tappan – A Nice Stroll is one of the prepared sandwiches available in their grab and go case. It’s breaded chicken cutlet, sharp cheese and mayo.

The Executioner at Reilly’s Rib Cage / Bergenfield – Reilly’s hit the scene this year as another entry serving real BBQ. The Executioner is a sandwich that doesn’t hold back with brisket, pulled pork, pimento cheese (Yes!), bacon and pineapple Hennessey BBQ sauce. We also HIGHLY recommend his bacon-wrapped brisket jalapeno poppers. Website
