North Jersey Has Best Texas Weiners and Rippers

Thanks to their Complete Guide of New Jersey’s Crazy Hot Dogs, Saveur Magazine has highlighted our state’s seven varieties and as it turns out, Greater Bergen County is the home to the best options for the Paterson-style Texas Weiner and Ripper according to the author.

The Texas Weiner — natural casing dog that is griddled or deep fried and then topped with a sweet Greek-style “chili” with mustard and chopped onions as standard garnishes — can be best found at places like Libby’s Lunch (Paterson), Goffle Grill (Hawthorne) and Pappy’s Diner (Totowa). Ripper dogs — a deep-fried beef and pork dog — can be best found at Hiram’s (Fort Lee), Rutt’s Hut (Clifton) and Callahan’s (Norwood).
