California-based Mexican fast food chain Del Taco has announced a move into the Northeast for the first time, with units heading for NJ sometime in 2016 — they currently operate 550 restaurants in 16 states. Sit tight though Bergen fans, the franchise deals they’ve signed are for Monmouth, Middlesex, Somerset, Mercer, Burlington, Union and Essex counties so far — here’s hoping that announcement is forthcoming.

Del Taco offers made to order Mexican items, sourced with fresh ingredients including cheddar cheese grated from 40-pound blocks, handmade pico de gallo salsa, lard-free beans slow-cooked from scratch, and marinated chicken grilled in the restaurant. The menu (View Menu) is pretty standard for Mexican-style fast food: tacos (including turkey as a filling), burritos, fresca bowls, quesadillas and nachos round out the menu with a few burger/fries choices. They also serve an expansive breakfast and value menus.
