NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced that food businesses have until July 1, 2015 to stop serving their fare in foam containers, according to a report by The New York Times. Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg began the movement as he left office, while city officials were given a year to find ways to recycle or resell the material before the material was banned.

Certain non-profits and businesses will be apply to apply for an exemption and the city won’t actually start enforcing the rules until January 2016. Other cities like San Francisco have already instituted such rules, though it is unclear if any local NJ municipalities have yet.
