A new pizzeria named Old Flames, which offers both “Traditional New York Style” pizza from their gas oven and classic Neapolitan-style (they call it “Wood Fired Gourmet Pizza”) from their wood-burning imported oven, has been open for about 6 weeks in Blauvelt. Owner Ben Vulaj and his pizzaiolo have a combined 35 years experience and wanted to offer customers a choice of 12 inch Neapolitan pies the familiar regional style.

The menu (see below) covers a range of Italian appetizers and entrees, plus other items from the pizza oven like calzones and other pizza specialties like a Grandma-style Sicilian pizza. Then there’s the New York Stlye Pizza, which is available with or without toppings, plus a number of pre-composed options.

Naturally the Neapolitan pies feature ingredients like 00 flour, San Marzano tomatoes and homemade mozzarella. They are cooked for approximately 90 seconds in the oven ― imported from Naples ― and which can get as hot as 1000 degrees according to the pizzaiolo. According to their Facebook Page, the restaurant is open six days (Tuesday thru Sunday).
