Opening Alert: Mulberry Street Cafe, Waldwick, NJ

Celebrity Chef Anton Testino has taken the wraps off his new restaurant Mulberry Street Cafe, an eatery aimed squarely at the national sandwich chains. Most are probably familiar with Testino’s time on television on Food Network’s Chopped and Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen. Expect a full grand opening next Tuesday, December 2nd.

The restaurant is more than just a simple sandwich shop, it is a nostalgic “Depression Era” Italian delicatessen and dessert franchise, serving Semolina sandwiches, soups, salads and risotto. The offerings are available a la carte (full-sized) or pick any two “combo-sized” sandwiches, salads, soups or risottos.

The servers are all wearing uniforms ― bow-ties and soda jerk caps ― with tables covered in red and white checkered tablecloths… all to give the concept a 1930s feel. This is the first of 5 NJ locations, though the other spots have not yet been announced. Mulberry Street Cafe is open seven days a week for lunch and early dinner.
