Opening Alert: Bergen Brick Oven Bar & Grill, South Hackensack, NJ

Bergen Brick Oven Bar & Grill, a sports bar specializing in pizza and American pub fare, has opened in South Hackensack. The restaurant and bar has replaced Tony G’s and is run by partners Nick Schlit and Tony Giaquinto, both of whom have owned and operated restaurants in Bergen County for many years.

The menu (see below) focuses on specialty pies cooked in their gas brick oven, burgers made with certified Angus and other traditional bar food. Most of the menu is made from scratch, including musch of the pizza ingredients including mozzarella, sauce and dough.

One item in particular is their Old Judge pizza, made from the original recipe (the bar pie was famous at the Old Judge Tavern, a longtime South Hackensack spot) and cooked in a deck oven. The super thin crust is topped with a layer of cheese, then their homemade sauce, then another layer of cheese (though a lighter layer).

The whole place has been renovated, with 50 seats and a small outdoor area. There are 14 TVs, giving the space a sports bar feel. Bergen Brick Oven is open 7 days from 11am til midnight Sunday thru Wednesday, 11am till 2am Thursday and 11am till 3am Friday and Saturday.
