Johnny Meatballs to Appear on Frankenfood This Weekend

Johnny Meatballs, the “Meatball King of New Jersey”, will be a contestant on this weekend’s episode of Frankenfood (SpikeTV, Sunday, 10pm or check your local listings). The premise of the show asks cooks far and wide to challenge the status quo with some crazy food mashups ― in hopes of a $10,000 prize and a stay on some popular restaurant’s menu. According to their website, the show proclaims that beloved dishes like the Reuben sandwich or chicken and waffles never would’ve existed without the “adventurous spirit” of chefs everywhere. Celebrity judges include Tony Luke, Jr. (of his namesake cheese steak empire) and restauranteur Josh Capon (Lure Fishbar,  B&B Winepub; also the show co-creator).

Johnny’s Truck

Johnny grew up locally in Palisades Park and now lives in Wood-Ridge with his wife and child. He’s currently busy with his new truck, which is built from a converted bus/van, hitting some of the Bergen County parks (as part of a new deals with the county for food trucks) and various local street fairs and festivals (Keep up to date at his Facebook Page). Naturally, he couldn’t give us any specifics about his dish and how he fares in the competition – but we’ll take bets that there’s some sort of meatball slant to his dish.

Sub with Johnny’s Meatballs

Johnny admits their was alot of “trash talking” during the filming ― which took 18 hours ― though he felt the energy and competition is what makes for an exciting show. He’s actually sort of veteran when it comes to reality shows, he and his wife were featured on the VH1 reality show My Big Friggin’ Wedding a few years ago. Did it help with his ability to compete? Looks like we’ll have to tune in Sunday night.
