El Caney (Now Caney Cuban Cafe) in Bergenfield Headed to New Larger Location

We were incorrectly informed recently that a Domincan restaurant would be replacing Mad For Chicken in Bergenfield. Instead nearby Cuban restaurant El Caney, which opened in 2009 and moved from it’s original “shack” setup to it’s current location, will be taking over the space (as Caney Cuban Cafe). Owner Tony Gonzalez and his mother Nereida were written up in a New York Times story about the restaurant shortly after as well, focusing on their fresh-from-scratch, homemade Cuban cuisine.

They are currently in the process of moving and Gonzales responded to our inquiry that the restaurant should be opening this coming Monday, January, 13th.

Went to the new location of El Caney yesterday and they are not open. Looks like they are not close to opening soon. Windows boarded up, etc. No answer on phone either. Just sayin’

Thanks for the info. The owner sent us an email Saturday, but we didn’t go by yet. We will certainly check it out.
