Bergen Food Artisans: Big Red House Soup

Big Red House Soups

Looking for a warm and hearty treat to fill your bellies as the days get colder? Big Red House Soup may have the answer for you. Friends Jill Dupuis and Emily Pancer have always been interested in making healthy meals for their families, so they started cooking up their soups for delivery with the idea that they would create using the same ingredients someone would use in their own homemade soups.

Big Red House’s specialty are fresh, homemade soups using as many local, seasonal and organic ingredients as possible. The grains and beans are always organic while the meats (which are limited) and vegetables are organic when possible. Every part of the soup is homemade including the stocks and all are made without cream, butter and preservatives.

To be as sustainable as possible, Jill and Emily felt that using as much local and organic ingredients wasn’t enough. They’ve also been working with River Bend Farm in Far Hills, NJ where they are sending their vegetable scraps. These scraps are being used to feed the livestock (pigs) in an effort to make sure as little of their production goes to waste.

There are currently 10-12 soups in rotation including Split Pea,Carrot Cauliflower and Mulligatawny. The options are predominately vegetarian with many also being vegan and some gluten-free. They pride themselves in globally-inspired exotic flavors and find that the soups are good gateway choices to introduce new flavors to children (including their own).

On Fridays, Big Red House sends out the menu for the following week. Orders must be made by Monday for delivery on that week’s Thursday or Friday. Check out their website for more information or to signup for their weekly menu, send an email to bigredhouse1@gmail.com. Pickup locations are Glen Rock, Tenafly and most recently Red Mango in Wyckoff. Red Mango will also double as a retail outlet where cups of their rotating soup will be available for purchase.
