Brand New: Red Parrot Bistro, Englewood, NJ (CLOSED)

Dinner Menu (PDF)

Englewood is certainly one of the busier towns in the area, especially when it comes to being a dining destination. In the last twelve months we’ve seen the openings of Chipotle, Levant Grille, La’Mezza, U Pie Company… the moving up the block of The Kitchen and the closings of Wild Wasabi, Smoke Chophouse (to return as Smoke Tavern) and Muscle Maker Grill.

Another new addition is Red Parrot Bistro on the Eastern-most strip of Palisades Avenue (in the space of the earlier mentioned Muscle Maker Grill). The restaurant has done quite a transformation from the cookie-cutter MMG formula, keeping with the red accent colors, but adding new fixtures and curtains for a more secluded and romantic touch. Also of note, outdoor sidewalk seating is available for those looking to take advantage of the nice weather.

Main dining room

The kitchen is run by Chef Al, a Culinary Institute of America graduate, who is focusing on locally sourced produce and grass-fed meats (according to both their current advertisements and write ups). The lunch menu favors salads, burgers, sandwiches and pasta with “Savory Crepes” as an interesting section as well. The dinner menu changes course with just appetizers and main courses sections.

We were most intrigued by the RPB Burger on the menu. Clocking in at $23, that might seem like an indulgence for lunch… but hardly the most expensive area in the NYC Metro Area (Minetta Tavern and DB Bistro Moderne come to mind). Their “signature” dish in the daytime featured grass-fed, truffled 8oz ground brisket and short rib, foie gras, watercress, Dijonnaise sauce on a toasted brioche.
