A new Mexican restaurant and agave bar has soft opened in Bergen County.

Azul is now open at 120 River Street in Hackensack, a new concept from Chef Cristino “Tony” Campos, who previously operated La Hacienda in Paterson for more than 30 years.

The restaurant focuses on regional Mexican cooking, with a menu built around traditional techniques and dishes including mole, cochinita pibil and grilled meats.

Drinks are also a major part of the concept, with a bar featuring more than 40 mezcals alongside cocktails and other agave spirits.

Inside, Azul features a contemporary, low-lit dining room with a mezzanine overlooking the main space and a large illuminated moon installation serving as a focal point.
