Bergen Has Some of Jersey’s Best Italian Delis

Three Bergen County delis have landed on NJ.com’s latest ranking of the best Italian delis in New Jersey (View Story).

The publication recently released its list of “New Jersey’s 42 best Italian delis, ranked for 2026,” looking beyond sandwiches to consider each spot’s menu, history, tradition and atmosphere.

Here are the three Bergen County spots that made the list:

No. 40: Michael’s Salumeria, Lyndhurst

Michael’s Salumeria dates back to 1976 and earned a spot for its Italian subs and specialty foods. NJ.com highlighted its chicken cutlets and house-cooked roast beef, along with platters featuring meatballs and other Italian favorites.

No. 23: Appetizzio’s Italian Specialties and World Market, Lyndhurst

Also representing Lyndhurst is Appetizzio’s, which landed at No. 23. NJ.com singled out its selection of sides and salads along with its chicken parm and mozzarella.

No. 18: Cosmo’s Salumeria, Hackensack

The highest-ranked Bergen County entry was Cosmo’s Salumeria at No. 18. Open since 1996 and run by Cosmo and Lorenza DePinto, the longtime deli was highlighted for its old-school atmosphere and limited menu, including Lorenza’s meatballs, Friday eggplant and a porchetta sub offered as a special.
