Bergen County Has Some of the State’s Best Dumplings
Dumplings are one of the world’s great comfort foods—whether they’re steamed in bamboo baskets, pan-fried until crispy, or packed with rich broth waiting to burst open on the first bite.
And according to NJ.com’s newly released list of the 23 best dumpling dishes in New Jersey (Read Story), Bergen County has become one of the state’s true dumpling capitals.
From Fort Lee and Palisades Park to Hackensack, Englewood, Rutherford, and Northvale, Bergen County restaurants dominated the statewide rankings with soup dumplings, Korean mandu, pork buns, Cantonese dim sum, and more all earning recognition.
One of Bergen County’s biggest highlights came at No. 3 statewide, where Old Shanghai Soup Dumplings in Palisades Park earned recognition for its pan-fried pork buns. NJ.com described the buns as having a crisp bottom, bread-like dough, and juicy meat-filled interior. While many diners flock there for soup dumplings, the article said the pork buns are the true standout.
At No. 6 with Soup Dumpling Plus and its pork soup dumplings. NJ.com called the dish “perfect comfort food,” praising the delicate dumpling skin, savory meat filling, and rich broth hidden inside each dumpling. The article noted that nothing beats the classic version of soup dumplings on a cold or rainy day.
At No. 8 statewide, Dumpling Dojo in Rutherford earned praise for its pork dumplings, which NJ.com described as somewhere between a pierogi and a dumpling with crispy bottoms and lingering flavor. The article also highlighted the restaurant’s Szechuan ravioli and fusion-inspired menu.
Northvale’s Woori Mart took the No. 10 spot for its beef and chive mandu served from a small stand tucked inside the supermarket. NJ.com said the Korean dumplings were so good that one diner compared them to homemade mandu from Korea itself. The steamed dumplings were praised for delivering “big flavor” with simple ingredients.
Best Dumplings in Englewood landed at No. 13 for its kimchi beef dumplings. The dumplings were described as flavorful without being overly fermented, while also shouting out the restaurant’s pork dumplings, spinach and kale dumplings, and dumpling soup. The article called attention to the restaurant’s large trays of dumplings and wings waiting behind the counter.
At No. 15, Dim Sum Station in Hackensack earned recognition for its shrimp dumplings and traditional Cantonese dim sum menu. They highlighted the restaurant’s authentic Guangdong-style offerings, including chicken feet, beef tripe, and braised pig intestines, while noting seafood lovers “will be satisfied” by the shrimp dumplings.
Fort Lee appeared again. at No. 21 statewide was Dumpling Den in Fort Lee for its soup dumpling sampler. NJ.com praised the combo platter featuring pork, crab, chicken, and vegetable soup dumplings, calling all four varieties “quite delicious.” The article also recommended pairing the sampler with crab and pork dumplings or chicken kimchi dumplings.
