Opening Alert: Thai Chef Jr, Dumont, NJ

Thai Chef Jr. is a new Thai takeout restaurant now open in Dumont.

The eatery is led by Bergen County locals Artisha Premon and Carlos Alvarez Jr., a fiancé duo with deep family roots in the state’s Thai dining scene.

While Thai Chef Jr. is a new venture, the name pays homage to a well-known family legacy.

Artisha’s father, Chef Veera Premon, operated multiple Thai Chef restaurants across New Jersey for decades, including locations in Montclair, Westwood, Hackensack, and beyond.

Though he retired during the pandemic, his influence remains strong for the eatery, as Thai Chef Jr. will carry on some of those signature recipes while introducing a quicker, more casual approach to the cuisine.

The new business has personal significance for the couple. After losing their home in a house fire two years ago, the restaurant became a symbol of rebuilding and resilience.

Unlike the original white-tablecloth dining experience associated with Chef Veera’s restaurants, Thai Chef Jr. aims to deliver affordable, high-quality Thai food in a takeout format—designed for modern lifestyles.

It’s currently open six days a week (closed Tuesdays).
