Yelp has shared their picks — or “unwrapped” — for the top tamale in each state (View Story).

With interest in New Mexican food up (according to their data), tamales (stuffed corn-based dough that’s steamed) are now their latest list.

This “all-time list” of “top tamales” was compiled by identifying businesses in the “food and restaurants categories on Yelp” with a large concentration of reviews mentioning “tamale”.

Then those places were ranked using factors like “total volume and ratings of reviews” mentioning the dish.

For New Jersey, the selection was Taqueria Downtown in Jersey City.
