Shumi, the award-winning sushi restaurant, is opening in Leonia.

Since the original Somerville location opened in 2017, Shumi has been on numerous best of lists, including r New Jersey’s 35 greatest sushi restaurants by NJ.com (Read Story).

It’s guided by Master Chef Kunihiko Aikasa and Chef David Seo who shared, “Aikasa and I are looking forward to opening in Leonia. We are excited to bring our Omakase to the thriving neighborhood and especially thrilled to offer the private room omakase dining experience in New Jersey.”

The new and modern restaurant will specialize in serving the chef’s choice of the “finest and freshest fish” from Japan.

It will include a “one of a kind” private and exclusive omakase room that will seat eight VIP guests.

They will offer a full Japanese menu of hot and cold dishes and a complete sushi/sashimi menu in the dining room that seats up to forty-two guests.

Ownership is expected to open on Friday, February 3rd.
