Soma, a new Japanese restaurant, has opened in Fort Lee.

Owner May Lee, who has a background is in the beauty industry, saw an opportunity during the pandemic to open the business and jumped in head first – she’s been working on this project since June 2021.

Their executive chef Yoji Matsuzaki, comes from Sushi of Gari and is heads the sushi menu while their head kitchen chef  has extensive experience in Japanese cuisine and has worked at many Japanese restaurants across the city.

The concept of the restaurant is to “honor traditional Japanese cuisine” by using “the highest quality ingredients” at an “approachable price point”.

The menu (View Menus) mainly consists of traditional Japanese foods along with some fusion items. They are serving lunch and dinner in addition to an 18-course omakase experience at the sushi counter.

There’s approximate seating available for ninety eight people, including their private event space.

It’s currently open seven days a week.
