North Jersey Losing Another Longtime Restaurant

Baumgart’s Cafe, the Chinese and American food restaurant, is closing it’s Englewood storefront on April 17th — it’s been operating it’s current incarnation on East Palisade Avenue since 1988.

At one point there were five Baumgart’s including one in Livingston and one in Nyack — now only Ridgewood and Edgewater will remain. Known for it’s “50s soda fountain ambiance”,  which was part of what made the business stand out with its “unique look, taste, and style”.

The restaurant is well known for it’s eclectic mix of a menu, where one can order Chinese dishes like Orange Beef along with a chicken salad sandwich or a hamburger. Equally well known was their ice homemade ice cream. The menu grew over the years to also include items like sushi and other fare.

According to the restaurant, the building has been sold and they thank customers for their “patronage and memories all these years”.

They encourage guests to visit the Ridgewood (Website) and Edgewater (Website) locations.
