Opening Alert: Taverna Veranda, Edgewater, NJ

Taverna Veranda, a new restaurant and bar, has opened in Edgewater.

The “spacious eatery” offers indoor and outdoor dining featuring Mediterranean fare, with a “focus on Mediterranean comfort food” and the “occasional contemporary twist”.

It’s from restaurateurs Constantine Youssis, Moutaz Ali and Aldo Abdallah. They all collectively have vast hospitality experience in Manhattan, including restaurants Nerai, Falucka, and Gardenia. Youssis’s family also operates Sofia’s Mediterranean Grill in Hasbrouck Heights.

Executive Chef Nestor Moina previously helmed the kitchen at Pergola (NYC) and spent his culinary career at many other New York restaurants including Serafina, Beacon, and Remi.

It’s housed in a former Chase branch that’s been totally transformed with white-washed brick walls, polished concrete floors and cast iron planters with greenery throughout. Reclaimed wood can be found on accent walls and Taverna Veranda’s bar was made from an entire tree. Solid walnut tables wrapped in cast-iron are spread out across the dining room floor with chairs to match.

The menu (View Menu) includes a number of large plates, mezze options, and a “Simply Grilled” menu. They have an extensive wine menu with over 100 wines by the bottle from Greece, Lebanon and Cyprus — in addition to Italy, France and Napa Valley. There’s also a menu of specialty cocktails.

With 3000 square feet of space, it includes 82 seats indoors and an outdoor patio for 48 guests that overlooks the Hudson River.

It’s currently open seven days a week for dinner beginning at 5:00pm.
