Opening Alert: Mi Flor Latin Cafe, Westwood, NJ

Mi Flor Latin Cafe, a new restaurant in Westwood, has opened on Kinderkamack Road.

Chef Eliu Salguero was born and raised in Guatemala in a large family as one of 16 siblings. This is his first restaurant, having previously worked over seven years a chef. He has always wanted to open his own restaurant serving Latin food with Guatemalan influence — Mi Flor is being billed as “Guatemalan Inspired Cuisine”.

The menu (View Menu) includes items like Pollo en Pipian (the national dish of Guatemala) — dry roasted chilies, tomatoes, onions and pumpkin & sesame seeds are ground into a smooth sauce and served over chicken legs, empanadas (made to order) and ceviche.

Tortillas are all hand made and cooked fresh with each order for which they accompany. There’s also house made smoothies and shakes like Pina Colada, strawberry, mango and more.

All the dishes are made to order and are “as fresh as possible” with nothing frozen and then heated and served.

The restaurant theme is based on the baby blue and white stripes in the Guatemalan Flag. With indoor and outdoor seating, guests can enjoy breakfast lunch and dinner all day. Current hours are Tuesday-Thursday from 7am till 9pm, Friday-Saturday from 7am till 10pm and Sunday from 11am till 6pm.
