Motorino Chef Bringing Gigi & Mario to Edgewater

Award-winning chef Mathieu Palombino (Motorino) is set to launch his latest pizza and Italian venture, Gigi & Mario in Edgewater (replacing Izzy’s).

Gigi & Mario will see Chef Palombino departing from his signature Neapolitan pizza with large, shareable pies — plus a number Italian mainstays on the menu.

Pizza will be the main attraction, 18-inch pies cooked in a Neapolitan Acunto oven. Dough will be crafted from a blend of American flours, with California tomatoes in the sauce and locally made fresh mozzarella.


Specialty pies include a spicy soppressata, featuring a blend of tomato, cheese, Calabrian chilies and soppressata, and a special Pugliese pizza, a burrata base with broccoli rabe, fennel sausage, and fresh chilies. Guests may also customize their own pie, beginning with a red or white base and choosing from a list of fresh toppings.

No specific date just yet, but Palombino expects to open in June.
