Opening Alert: Bodegón, Cliffside Park, NJ

Bodegón, a casual fine-dining Spanish restaurant, has opened in Cliffside Park.

Chef and owner Alex Piñeiro got his start in the kitchen at Toro (NYC) from James Beard Award winners Jamie Bissonnette and Ken Oringer. He followed with a stint at Mas Farmhouse (West Village) and Michelin starred vegetarian restaurant Nix.

After a monthlong journey throughout Spain, Alex returned to the city and spent the next two years as the Chef de Cuisine at Huertas (East Village). Most recently Alex helped open Ernestos, which was awarded ‘2020 Best New Restaurant’ by GQ magazine.

Having always wanted to own a restaurant – Piñeiro grew up at his father’s restaurant Meson Español in West New York – the pandemic accelerated his plans to open a restaurant. With the world in lockdown, he had the time to finally lay out his plans and conceptualize Bodegón. Having grown up in nearby Ridgefield, there is an element of a homecoming for him opening in this part of North Jersey.

The opening menu (View Menu) shares the Spain Piñeiro knows, loves and does not get much limelight: Galicia. Bodegón’s cuisine focuses on this region and more broadly the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. Serving dinner only, all dishes are meant to be shared.

The restaurant is currently open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
