New Jersey Restaurants Allowed to Offer Cocktails To Go

Restaurants with liquor licenses have been able to sell beer and wine for takeout and delivery as part of the shutdown that began mid-March – mixed drinks with spirits (ie cocktails) are now on that list after a bill signing today by Governor Murphy.

Under the bill, restaurants with liquor licenses can now sell and deliver alcoholic beverages in original containers and mixed cocktails in closed and sealed containers to drink off-site during the current state of emergency.

“New Jersey’s restaurant and hospitality industry, like so many other businesses, has suffered tremendous financial losses due to COVID-19,” said Governor Murphy. “Allowing business owners with certain licenses and permits to sell beverages directly to consumers is a creative way to alleviate some of their financial uncertainty.”

This temporary change will last either six months after the state of emergency ends or when the stay at home occupancy restrictions in restaurants no longer apply – whichever is later.
