Opening Alert: Rockin’ Roots, Hillsdale, NJ

Rockin’ Roots, a new plant-based cafe from chef Michael Merida, has opened in Hillsdale.

Merida is currently a partner and chef at Montclair Social Club (Website) — a post he will retain — which opened last year in Montclair. He’s probably best known locally for his time at Mezza in Westwood and then Cravings Tapas Bistro in Ridgewood — he spent time earlier in his career at highly regarded establishments like El Bulli in Spain and Le Bernardin in Manhattan.

The menu (View Menu) at Rockin’ Roots is all plant-based — with vegetarian and vegan options — including savory dishes, bowls (breakfast, fruit, etc), in-house baked pastries, fresh squeezed juice, organic coffee, and more. Merida hopes to also serve monthly vegetarian and vegan tasting menus.
