Opening Alert: Gus’ Last Word, Wood-Ridge, NJ

Gus’ Last Word, a “neighborhood restaurant and bar”, has opened in Wood-Ridge.

Skopos Hospitality Group — the team behind Cowan’s Public (Nutley; Website) and The Barrow House (Clifton; Website) — say it’s “a love letter to the classic bars of the 1950s”, with a focus on stiff cocktails, icy drafts and comforting American fare that’s “centered around the warm hospitality we were raised on”.

The space is inspired by their grandparents pine paneled cellar bar — composed of two rooms along with a seasonal backyard bar.

A food menu (View Menu) features classic American bar fare, comforting entrees, and thin crust pizza with a focus on local and seasonal ingredients.

The beverage program features “plays on classic cocktails”, craft beer and wine focused on a mix of domestic and international offerings.

Currently it’s open Wednesday-Thursday from 4pm-11pm, Friday-Saturday from 4pm-12am and Sunday from 4pm-11pm.
