Opening Alert: Basque Tapas Bar, Piermont, NY

Basque Tapas Bar, a restaurant and bar focusing on Northern Spanish cuisine and tapas, has opened in Piermont.

Owner Benny Castro has brought his lifetime experience in the Spanish restaurant biz – he was partner/owner of Meson Sevilla and Sangria 46 (NYC), plus his father was one of the original owners of El Quijote (NYC) & the still popular Meson Madrid (Palisades Park). He’s held every position in the book: dish washer, cook, bartender, server, manager and more – he is a graduate of the New York Restaurant School.

As a native of Bergen County, he’s found himself venturing up to the Village of Piermont often – He always loved the area as a spot for a “nice small and quaint Spanish tapas restaurant”.

The menu (Visit Site) offers a variety of 18 tapas, 3 different style of paellas, and about 9 entrees. All of the meats are Angus, lamb chops are domestic, seafood is wild (never farm-raised). A variety of other items will be imported from Spain: Serrano ham, Iberico ham, chorizo, and puplo octopus – which hails from North Atlantic coastal waters. The wine list will feature primarily bottles from Spain and freshly prepared Sangrias. Beers will also primarily be Spanish.

The 50 seat restaurant is now open six days a week (closed Mondays).
