Opening Alert: Cowan’s Public, Nutley, NJ

Cowans

Cowan’s Public, a new bar/restaurant that replaces The Nutley Pub, has opened in Nutley. It’s owned and operated by brothers Tom and Dean Maroulakous, both with their experience the biz (Tom was a brewer at High Point Brewery) and paying homage to the building’s history — their father was once a bartender there.

The restaurant is serving upscale pub grub —  a 15-18 item menu — with a focus on small plates and sandwiches. Chef Chris Arturo is taking the approach to bring something a bit different in a pub atmosphere.

There are 16 craft beers on draft, selected for people to experience new things and be educated in a comfortable and friendly way about the brews — and the cocktails feature artisanal spirits and seasonal ingredients.

The brothers are going for a mid-30s “art deco” feel — there’s exposed brick and the hope that you feel like you’re in someone’s living room, but there’s a bar there. Cowan’s Public is open 7 days a week till 2:00am with happy hour daily from 4:00–7:00pm.
