Opening Alert: Picnic on The Square, Ridgewood, NJ

grange_05

The return of much-beloved Picnic restaurant from Christine Nunn is here with Picnic on the Square. She will retain her role as Executive chef at Grange in Westwood, but is expanding her culinary empire a few towns to the west.

The menu (View Menu) is more French-influenced than Grange, which itself features a more “classic” American menu. Nunn expects to change the menu weekly with both a la carte and pric fixe options. Diners Tuesdays thru Thursdays have the option of a 2 course prix fixe ($40) or a 3 course prix fixe ($50). Dessert will still be a surprise ― Nunn is keeping Picnic tradition by having the waitstaff offer it verbally ― there is no written dessert menu.

Speaking of staff, she’s brought back the entire team from Fair Lawn: head waitress, host and sous chef will be making a return ― though there’s some changes to the interior. The “family living room” look from Fair Lawn has been updated with an urban, hip and industrial look. In fact Nunn feels her new restaurant’s home is situated in the “Brooklyn” of Ridgewood ― along with other nearby spots west of the train tracks like Cravings, Carlo’s and Pizza Fusion.
