The Empanada Shop, the “gourmet” empanada shop, has opened a second location in Rutherford. Their first location opened around January of 2018 in Wood-Ridge.

Founded by Joni Caldera and Nelson Contreras, an Italian and Dominican couple each with a seven year old sons, the menu (View Menu) includes “gourmet empanadas” made from homemade recipes passed down from their Dominican and Italian backgrounds. Flavors include classic Latin (beef, chicken, pork), Italian flavors (sausage, peppers & onions, tomato & basil, garlic shrimp) and American (Buffalo chicken, broccoli & cheddar, chili mac n cheese).

Empanada fillings are always available via their rice bowl bar, where customers pick toppings, including fresh veggies, pico de fallo, spicy corn, and more.
