Opening Alert: Izzy’s Pizzeria, Edgewater, NJ

Izzy’s Pizzeria, a Neapolitan style pizza shop, has opened in Edgewater with some heavy hitters in tow – including ownership from Motorino (NYC) and Greek Taverna (next door in City Place). Both of the chefs trained with Roberto Caporuscio, the pizza chef from Don Antonio and Keste (NYC).

The menu (View Menu) is obviously pizza along with piadinas (sandwiches), salads and Neopolitan street food  like Saffron Arancini with fontina and potato and goat cheese croquettes. Seasonal specials, such as zucchini flowers, figs, and ramps should be expected, so keep an eye out.

Pies are crafted from imported Caputo 00 flour for the dough, which is fermented for 24 hours. They use San Marzano tomatoes imported from Italy and cook the pizzas in a Gianni Acunto wood-burning oven – imported from Naples – at 850 degrees for approx two minutes.
