After a short soft opening and a few weeks past their grand opening, Azúcar Cuban Cuisine and Cigars is in fact operating in Closter, bringing the same brand of Cuban eats that was served at their locations in Edgewater and Jersey City.

Owners Nick and Lauren Vazquez (father and daughter) are aiming for an “authentic Cuban restaurant” (View Menu) with a few twists in both the kitchen and bar — Lauren handles both GM and head mixologist duties, while Nick helms the kitchen. The menu does include his award winning Cuban sandwich — it was featured in a winning effort on the Food Network’s Throwdown with Bobby Flay.

The dining room and bar have been decorated with many Cuban items, plus flourishes designed to give the feel of a “tropical getaway”. The restaurant and bar are open six days (closed Mondays) for both lunch and dinner, with live music and dancing planned for the weekends.
