Jewish Standard, the weekly North Jersey newspaper that covers local, national, and world news of Jewish interest, has announced the winners of their annual Readers’ Choice awards – available as a insert in this weekend’s issue, dated July 29, 2016. Note: These awards are not exclusively for Kosher restaurants, in fact many of the winners are not Kosher at all.

The food and dining section of the awards, named A Nosh to a Meal, awarded 3 winners (first, second and third place) across 50+ categories. Categories run from the more traditional like ‘Best Sushi’ and ‘Best Greek’, to those with more granular like ‘Best French Fries’ and ‘Best Hummus’ and those with a Jewish leaning like ‘Best Matzo Ball Soup’ and ‘Best Challah’.

This year’s big winners (those with at least three First Place wins) were Cedar Market in Teaneck, Hummus Elite in Englewood, Noah’s Ark in Teaneck, and Sammy’s in Teaneck. American Cut in Englewood Cliffs was named ‘Best New Restaurant’. The full weekly supplement featuring all the winners is up online.
