The cronut. The croissant-doughnut hybrid that has made the food world crazy in 2013. It can be simply described as a doughnut made with croissant dough, though apparently its a lot harder to make than just throwing a croissant in a a deep fryer. At one point things had gotten so ludicrous, people were selling them on Craigslist in excess of $40. It first documented locally by the NJ food press in early August.

Instead of getting on line at 3am outside the Dominique Ansel Bakery in SoHo, a few local Bergen County bakers have jumped onto the bandwagon and began offering their version of the hottest baked good since the cupcake. Of course they are not truly cronuts, since Dominique Ansel has already trademarked the term. Those who stick their noses in the air at food hype can check out the Cakepanada instead.
