The Farm in Closter (still referred to Trautwein Farms by many) has closed it’s doors at 515 Piermont Road as of December 25th. The farm has been serving the area since the late 1800’s, providing corn, strawberries, broccoli, pumpkins, asparagus, and rhubarb which were sold by the Trautwein family at a roadside stand. After purchasing the farm from the Trauwein family in 2002, the farm has been selling in-season, locally grown produce, baked goods, cold salads, sandwiches and more. A new version of The Farm will be opening down the block in Closter Commons sometime later this year featuring more varied prepared foods, an expanded bakery and increased gourmet cheeses according to owner Ted Sollod. Fortunately for many fans they will continue to serve their homemade doughnuts.

The farm landscape in Closter has changed significantly in the last few years, with the greenhouse transformation (and subsequent public uproar of) Brooks Farm on Hickory Lane. Also the Abram Demaree Homestead launched their Country Farm Stand store a few years ago serving local, organic produce and prepared foods fives days a week with food sourced from their 14-acre farmland.
